Comics in Norway?
Sure thing! In Norway comics are an important part of popular culture. Every supermarket, kiosk, gas-station and newsstand provides at least fifteen weekly or monthly comics. The most popular one, Disney's "Donald Duck & Co" are read by 25 % of the population every week. The greatest Norwegian success story is the character "Pondus" by Frode Øverli, his strips are printed in newspapers in many countries (including Russia!!!) and the monthly Pondus comic now outsells Donald Duck in magazine form and tops the bestseller lists each year for the book collections!
For more than fifteen years we have had the pleasure of hosting a great number of artists. All of them; from Will Eisner and Jeff Smith, to local creators Lars Lauvik, Karine Haaland and Frode Øverli held the stage and mesmerized their audience with captivating stories and visually stimulating presentations. In between talkshows and presentations, there is opportunities for signing at the trade tables and sketch sessions for fans. And plenty of time to socialize with fans and colleagues. Raptus is a fully volunteer-run festival, staged by a group of about sixty volunteers. It is funded by the local Bergen Cultural Council and the Norwegian Cultural Department.
